Carolina is a PhD student in the project S03 “Obesity as a model of sex diversity in steroid metabolism” at the CRC 1665 Sexdiversity.

She holds a Medical Degree (Dr. med.) from the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, focused on genetics, immunological disorders, and clinical research. She subsequently completed her Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Molecular Medicine at NTNU, supervised by Dr. Benjamin Brigant and Dr. Victor Boyartchuk.

Her PhD research sits at the intersection of endocrinology and metabolic inflammation, examining how obesity and related factors contribute to hormonal imbalances and the development of comorbid diseases. The current project investigates the role of adipocytes in steroid production. This work builds upon her prior research in immunology, conducted during her masters at CEMIR (Centre of Molecular Inflammation Research), Norway, where she studied the molecular mechanisms underlying chondrocyte cell death in osteoarthritis and analyzed new targets involved in its inflammatory processes.

Carolina has a strong foundation in both clinical and molecular research, and her broad interest in chronic inflammation and immune responses has driven her to explore how metabolic and hormonal dysregulation interact with disease mechanisms.
