Zelda Wenner is a sociologist specializing in sex/gender relations and conducting research at the intersection of Science and Technology Studies and Sociology of Knowledge, Sex/Gender and the Body.
Since April 2024, Zelda has been working and completing her doctorate in the project S06 “Bringing Gender into Science - and Back! Historical and Ethnographic Perspectives on Sex Development” of the Collaborative Research Center ”Sexdiversity - Determinants, Meanings and Implications of Sex Diversity in sociocultural, medical and biological landscapes” (SFB 1665) at the Institute for the History of Medicine and Science Studies (IMGWF) at the University of Lübeck, Germany. Zelda studied Sociology and Psychology in her bachelor's degree at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and subsequently completed her Master's degree in Sociology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina. She completed her studies with the master thesis “I don't feel any less a man or a dad” - A qualitative-sociological investigation of reproductive masculinities in the context of assisted reproductive technologies, in which she dealt with conceptions of the body and gender in the field of assisted reproductive technologies.
From 2021 to 2024 Zelda worked as a research assistant in the CRC 294 “Structural Change of Property” at the Friedrich Schiller University in the sub-projects JRT03 “Ownership of Genetic Resource. On the appropriation of traditional knowledge in the bio-economy and C02 “Property in the human body in the context of transnational economies of reproduction”.
Zelda joined the Harvard GenderSci Lab under the direction of Sarah S. Richardson in August 2025.
